Hailey Whitters
District 129 – Wyandotte, MI
w/ Meg McRee
Hailey Whitters may have won the category for Best New Female Artist at the 2023 ACM Awards but during her tour stop at District 142 in Wyandotte, MI, Whitters put on a show at the level of the most seasoned superstar. The 19-song setlist was jam-packed full of fan favorites from her three studio albums, as well as her current EP, I’m In Love. While those songs would have been more than enough to satisfy the delighted crowd, Whitters didn’t stop there. She also treated fans to some fun covers ranging from Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” to the Dolly Parton classic, “9 to 5.) But that still wasn’t the end of what made the night special. The country music darling also broke out a brand new song that she hasn’t even recorded yet called, “Wagon.” It is quite a body of work for someone who is just starting to get the recognition that she deserves.
While the setlist was truly amazing, in the competitive world of country music that is not always enough to take a talented artist to the top. While watching Hailey Whitters perform on stage it was clear that she possesses that “IT” factor that separates her from the pack. She performs with the comfort and confidence of a legend, but with a spunk and sparkle that makes her like none else. Hailey Whitters is the perfect combination of fun and talent that makes her appealing to country music fans of all ages. When I listen to Hailey, I am reminded of such amazing artists as Tammy Wynette, Kacey Musgraves, and a young Natalie Maines. I can remember the first time I heard the Wide Open Spaces record from the Dixie Chicks. I had the same goosebumps when I listened to Hailey Whitters.
It was very special seeing Hailey Whitters at the top of her game performing in an intimate venue like District 142 in Wyandotte, MI. In just a few months, Whitters will be playing arenas and stadiums across the country alongside artists such as Dan & Shay and Luke Combs. But it doesn’t matter the size of the venue, when you get the opportunity to see Hailey Whitters live, don’t miss it. Or else you will miss your chance to see the future of country music. Hailey Whitters is the real deal and is here to stay!
